Lebanese women, who are renowned for their beauty, class, and intelligence, have yet to break through the barriers of economic and political life.
Despite the progress made, the participation of women in the workforce lags behind the rest of the industrialized world, with Lebanon ranking at a mere 128 out of 137 countries according to a report released by the World Economic Forum.
If Lebanon’s political class is truly vying to ameliorate its standing in the world, then implementing reforms and fully embracing gender equality is of the utmost importance.
Legislative changes must be sought out in order to wholly integrate women in the economic sphere, which will benefit the country’s social and economic development and bolster our Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
As emphasized by the latest UN women campaign, gender equality goes a long way in achieving a country’s sustainable development goals, and the inclusion of women in the policy-making processes is integral to achieving these conditions.
